
Using Your PC As A Telephone

Adding
software to a PC with a soundcard creates a “softphone.” When connected
to the Internet even over wireless LAN
or WIFI hotspot connections your PC becomes a telephone with the
same local connectivity and user interface no matter where you are. A
standard PC type headset with a microphone is used to speak and listen.
The display looks like a telephone and has button image icons
that work like a normal telephone. |
SIP Telephones

SIP
telephones may be softphones or hardphones and use Session Initiation Protocol to establish
IP communications over the Internet. SIP telephones connect to the
Internet through a modem and usually a router, with an Ethernet
connection. The newest telephone systems have SIP built in. Older
telephone systems have SIP added via a gateway that also allows them to
connect to the Internet. (please see below)

Applications
For an existing
home or small office an ordinary telephone is connected to a special
home or small office router with a
plain old telephone jack output.
For Multi Line Office Applications
For offices with
multiple telephone line service a telephone system an
interface or gateway is supplied that connects the telephone lines on the telephone system to the
Internet.
IP Telephone System
An IP telephone
system will provide added functionality with the lowest operating
costs. Some of the operating advantages are that all locations will act as one with local area and the network
connections of one location can be shared with all locations. Use centralized voice mail with almost
unlimited flexibility with call in queues, auto attendants and
integrated voicemail email functions.
